Its taken me about 3 months to complete this painting. When I started out one of the things I didn’t know was that it would take this long. Others things were what it would finally look like when finished and what it was going to be called.
My imagined conversation with a friend about this painting I produced in June.
For the time being I’ve declared this painting finished, but who knows I may come back to it.
La Maroma is the focal point of a fertile valley dotted with Fincas, vineyards and groves of olives and avocado.
Analogy or metaphor? I confess I’m unclear on the difference between these concepts.
Imagine lying on your back in a woodland clearing. Its a warm afternoon and looking up through the branches the sky is cloudless and deep blue.
I remember being drawn to closely examine one of Turners wonderfully light, wispy amorphous skies and was fascinated to find the subtle highlight in a cloud was in fact a thick smear of paint.
I have a primary objective for my art and several separate strands of work, recently theres been crossover and it feels like a trap I’ve fallen in to.
Working with the natural world as a source of inspiration as well as subject matter I have come to appreciate how everything in our world, the universe even, has its role to play in the great scheme.
